"Do not register but create. The camera is no more or less than an instrument for capturing pre-visualized images".
Jan van Aalst is an autonomous photographer based in Bergeijk.
Jan van Aalst has always been fascinated by photography. As a child he was allowed to look over the shoulder of his father while photographing and filming. He received his first camera, a Baby Brownie Special, from him at a young age. That was his start as a photographer.
After his photography training and further specializations, he eventually established himself as an autonomous photographer in Bergeijk.
In his autonomous work, he focuses primarily on playing reality. The essence of his photography is capturing that reality in an image and adding a dimension to it. The end result is therefore not always recognizable.
Dealing with reality in this way aims to challenge people to look at an image longer and to investigate this.
Recurring themes in his work are abstraction, form, movement and light.
